Sidra Data Platform (version 2025.03: Blissful Bañugues)

Released on March 14, 2025

Enhancing Upgrades, Expanding Connectivity, and Optimizing Performance

This Sidra release introduces significant improvements to deployment flexibility, performance, and scalability, as a continuation of our effort to refine Sidra’s upgrade experience, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient updates across the platform, from core services to Data Products.

Additionally, Sidra now supports Snowflake integration, further extending its connectivity capabilities. Alongside these updates, we have made several performance optimizations, package updates, and UI refinements to enhance usability and efficiency.

Sidra 2025.03 Release Highlights

New Data Product Deployment Model

With Sidra 2025.03 We are introducing a new deployment and upgrade model for Data Products that allows in-place upgrades without redeploying infrastructure. This enables:

  • Faster upgrades: For updates that don't need any infrastructure change, updating existing Data Products is now orders of magnitude quicker.
  • Safer transitions: Eliminates unnecessary infrastructure modifications, reducing upgrade risks.
  • Improved stability: Builds on the Infrastructure-as-Code enhancements from previous releases to streamline the entire Sidra upgrade process, from core services to Data Products.

This is a key milestone in our ongoing work to make Sidra more efficient, modular, and upgrade-friendly.

Snowflake Connector

It’s finally here! Sidra now includes a Snowflake Connector, enabling:

  • Seamless data integration between Snowflake and Sidra
  • Full and incremental data synchronization
  • Optimized pipeline execution using Azure Data Factory

This connector allows organizations to leverage Snowflake’s cloud-native capabilities while ensuring full governance and integration within Sidra, and supports different data synchronization modes, allowing you to adapt to various needs and configurations in the source system or Sidra:

  • Full load data synchronization: Ideal for initial loads. This is also the default mode if no incremental load mechanism is configured. The first load will be a complete load by default.
  • Incremental load data synchronization: This method captures updates for any new or modified data from the Snowflake database, retrieving only the updates since the last synchronization.

Base Infrastructure Enhancements

We have made some improvements to Sidra's infrastructure to improve the performance and stability, with the most notable being the following:

  • We have improved indexing on the Logs table, enhancing performance when querying logs manually.
  • The Authorization container now runs with 1 vCPU and 2GiB of memory, addressing previous performance limitations and improving authentication processes in Sidra’s default configuration. This configuration can be changed after the deployment to better adjust to specific customer workloads, but this new default should cope better with the performance requirements of most of our customers.

Other Improvements

In addition to the major features and enhancements in this release, we have made several smaller improvements to further refine the platform’s usability, performance, and maintainability:

  • UI Fixes: Added a missing API Builder icon in the Available Services section of the web UI.
  • Package Updates:
    • Replaced Microsoft.Azure.Management.DataFactory for direct REST API calls in all Sidra activities that deploy ADF artifacts. This change was necessary as the latest version of Microsoft.Azure.Management.DataFactory has restricted deployment capabilities.
    • Updated Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore package to 7.0.20, which also updates Microsoft.Data.SqlClient to 5.1.5, addressing a security vulnerability detected in earlier versions. More details can be found here.

These refinements contribute to an overall smoother experience and keep Sidra up to date with the latest ecosystem advancements.

Issues Resolved in Sidra 2025.03

These are the issues resolved during this release in Sidra:

  • Resolved an issue where a logged-in Supervisor user with Admin privileges might not have access to the homepage. #8571

Coming soon

The next Sidra release will introduce new functionality to the Data Catalog, enhancing how users discover and manage data assets within the platform. We will also continue refining our ongoing theme: simplifying the installation and upgrade process across all deployment scenarios, making Sidra even easier to adopt and maintain.

Additionally, we are working on an entirely new service designed to tackle specific challenges in the healthcare sector. While this feature is still in development, it is set to launch later in Q2, bringing valuable innovations to organizations in this field.

Stay tuned for more updates!
